The US is not as democratic as you think it is. There are many countries that are far more free, allow more representation, and protect civil liberties better than the US (or Israel).

In reality, the US is more of a plutocracy veering towards religious fundamentalism, such as abortion bans which, incidentally, was also the policy of Iran, USSR, Cuba (since reversed), the Taliban, etc.

I think the same is true of Israel these days too. The capitalist ruling class rules these countries, not the people. Netenyahu is a corrupt thug that should be in prison if it were up to the people, but he's not. The US might also elect a criminal felon as the next president.

These systems pretending to be 'democracy' in US and Israel are broken shams. Americans and Israelis merely have the illusion of democracy, but not real power. Wars are never put to a vote. That's why people have to protest against them - there is no option to vote against them. The ruling class sending people off to war would never allowed that.

I've considered leaving the US many times (and I've lived in and visited other countries too). The US is becoming an authoritarian state, and is veering hard to the right and fascism, as Israel has. There are many other countries I would prefer to live. However, it is not a trivial matter gaining citizenship to these countries, and requires a lot of financial and legal resources to do so.

But, yes, I do have that option, unlike Palestinians who are perpetually stuck with no citizenship and refugee status. They would never be allowed to gain citizenship to Israel or return to the lands they were forced from, due to Israel's racist and apartheid policies.

Interestingly, as far as leaving countries one no longer agree with, many Israelis are doing just that, and opting to live in places like the US, Canada, or Western Europe that are far safer than Israel, and that don't require them to serve in the IDF.

Fun fact: Cuba's infant mortality rate is half that of the US, as they have far better access to affordable healthcare than we do in the states. This is despite Cuba being under US sanctions and blockade, like how Gaza is under Israeli blockade. This is probably why Cubans sympathize with Gaza. They have a common enemy: US imperialism (which backs Israel's military).

The US is not the democratic paradise everyone who has never lived here seems to think it is. It is one of the least free countries compared to many other democracies in the world, and is plagued by gun violence, rampant homelessness, religious fanaticism, poor access to healthcare, poor education, and simmering racial tensions as a legacy of its time as a slave and apartheid nation. Capitalism is failing US society and the US empire is in decline. It's also backed some of the worst, despotic regimes.

Another fun fact: The US overthrew democracy in Iran in order to secure oil rights for US and British companies. They put a very unpopular ruler in power (the Shah) which eventually led to the Iranians revolting against the US-backed regime and the Ayatollahs seizing power. So, you can thank the 'democratic' US largely for what Iran is today. It's a product of failed US foreign policy. Israel is turning into another.
