The US 'intervention' in Libya was just another appalling US Foreign policy disaster that did far more harm than good.

The reason Gaddafi was taken out, is because he was starting to challenge the fundamental tenets of American-style capitalism.

He's made out to be an absolute lunatic and nutter in US/Western propaganda, but in actuality, was trying to do some very real good for his citizens. I read somewhere that at one point, Libya had the lowest illiteracy rate and some of the best access to healthcare in the region.

Now, look what's happened. The US has ensured that - yet again - this example of attempting to build a system that caters to actual human needs rather than accumulation of capital is swiftly destroyed. Libya is an absolute humanitarian tragedy now, thanks to the US.

The one thing the US empire is terrified of is the threat of a good example. They don't want examples of countries throwing off the shackles of US/Western imperialism and becoming self-sufficient, and using their resources to provide for their own citizens rather than the profits of private Western interests.

This is why the US has been so crazed and deranged in its attempts to hobble Cuba - who threw out the terrible US-backed Batista regime and replaced it with one that was irrefutably better for the people in terms of quality of life and outcomes - despite one of the longest-running and vicious US programs of blockade/embargo/sanctions against it.

Same with Libya. But tragically for Libya, they were not as lucky as fortunate as Cuba in resisting/avoiding the full onslaught of the US military.
